Digital Apprenticeship Program
The Digital Apprenticeship Program is for people looking for a career change or finishing year 12. You’ll get to work with digital technologies and solve problems for things that matter. No degree necessary.
Who is this program for?
The Digital Apprenticeship Program is for Australian citizens who are passionate about digital technology.
You don’t need a degree or any prior study for the program. You just need to be interested in digital tech and solving problems. So if you’re looking for a career change or finishing year 12, this program is for you.

What you’ll get to work on
Government agencies have many different digital and technical roles. These roles support the core functions of each agency and are always changing. Past apprentices have worked in the following areas:
- cyber security
- user research
- interactive media
- software engineering
- big data
- systems analysis and design
- web development
- data analytics
- systems testing
- infrastructure support
- help desk
- applications development

Who you’ll be working for
Positions are available across the Australian Public Service for people seeking to start their digital or technical career. Participating agencies will vary each year.Back to top
In this program you’ll get:
- industry experience while you study
- vocational qualification in digital technology for government
- support from supervisors
- competitive salary and super
- permanent government employment
You’ll work full time and get to complete a Certificate IV or diploma in a digital or technology-related field. It’s all paid for by your government employer.
Once your qualification is complete you'll be able to continue working with permanent employment.
Support and coaching
You will have support from your supervisor and a dedicated career liaison to give you the best chance of success.
Your supervisor will provide guidance and feedback on day-to-day work and help you understand how your work is contributing to the agency’s goals.
Your career liaison will help you with your studies and job skills. They will help guide your professional development towards a successful and rewarding career.
You will also get to network with other participants and develop professional relationships that will support you throughout your career.Back to top
How to apply
Applications for this Program are currently closed, applications will open again in May 2021.
When applications are open, the application form will be available in the jobs section of our website.
You will need these documents:
- proof of Australian citizenship (birth certificate or passport)
- passport-size photo
- year 12 certificate (or equivalent), current students are to obtain a letter from their school confirming their year 12 enrolment
- a resume
3 stages to success
These are the 3 stages of the selection process:
- Submit your application only at the provided link. We'll contact you if your application is successful.
- Attend an interview. If your interview is successful we'll invite you to stage 3.
- Meet with participating agencies. At this stage you'll get to nominate which agencies you'd prefer to go to.
If you're not successful at a particular stage, we'll let you know by email and give you feedback as soon as possible.
At the end of this process we'll do our best to match you with an agency that you prefer and that has roles available to suit your skills.
