You need to align with the principles when using AI to:

  • prepare your resume
  • draft your written pitch
  • prepare for interviews and selection activities.

All content submitted must:

  • reflect your own skills, experience and capabilities
  • not be misleading.

Using AI to apply for a role

When using AI in your application and throughout the recruitment process:

  • act ethically and fairly
  • protect privacy and personal data
  • be transparent, authentic and truthful
  • use AI to support, not substitute your own skills and knowledge
  • your input must remain central — you must be able to explain and substantiate your claims
  • ensure your application is an accurate representation of your experience, qualifications and capabilities
  • do not use AI in a way that is misleading — your use of AI must not undermine merit-based selection
  • protect your personal information — don't enter sensitive or confidential information into AI tools.

 

Write an application

Most positions require a written submission as well as a Résumé. The written submission may be in the form of a cover letter or a short pitch.

Tips for your written submission:  

  • respond to the selection criteria using the STAR model
  • include examples from work, study or community roles
  • explain what you’ve done, how well you did it and what you achieved.

If you have the skills but don’t meet all the criteria, please don’t let that stop you from applying. If you're not sure, reach out to the contact officer for more information. 

Prepare your online application

We recommend writing your responses ahead of time, to do this:

  1. Select Preview your Application Form.
  2. Review the form questions.
  3. Write text-based responses somewhere else – when you’re ready to apply you can paste your responses in the relevant fields.

Submit your application

To submit your online application:

  1. Find your desired role and Start a New Application.
  2. Review and agree to the Privacy Policy by pressing Begin.
  3. Respond to each of the required questions.
  4. Review and submit your responses.

You don’t have to finish your application in one sitting; you can save it and finish it later. To return to an application you’ve already started, sign in to your account.

Shortlist and interview

We will check your application against the requirements of the role. If you’re short-listed, you will be invited to attend an interview, assessment activity or both.
