The Commonwealth Library Deposit and Free Issue Scheme was decommissioned on 1 March 2025. Legal deposit obligations remain in place for government publications.
The closure of the scheme means Australian Government department and agencies are not required to provide physical copies of their publications to Australian libraries.
Departments and agencies are required to meet other legal deposit obligations.
To meet legal deposit obligations, publications can be deposited electronically through the National edeposit (NED) service.
The public can continue to access Australian Government publications through the Australian Government's Transparency Portal and the National Library of Australia's catalogue or trove.
