New research partnership to strengthen digital transformation governance and leadership

This new consortium for Digital and AI Governance that brings together government, academia and industry to address complex leadership and governance challenges and turn research into practical approaches for government. 

Drawing on previous academic collaborations through the Digital Project Research Series, the consortium will support ongoing collaborative research that combines academic expertise with practical experience to develop best practice approaches to support digital delivery.

“The decisions made at the leadership and governance level shape the success of a digital project,” explains Simon Quarrell, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Digital Investment Advice and Sourcing Division at the DTA.

“Building a stronger evidence base around those decisions will help us better understand the conditions that support successful digital delivery.”

Turning research into practical outcomes

Strong leadership and governance are critical to successfully delivering complex digital projects. 

Over time, the consortium will strengthen national capability in digital transformation by developing research-informed tools, methods and frameworks that enhance governance and leadership across complex digital projects. Bringing together government, academia and industry, it will create opportunities to share expertise, resources and emerging insights.

Research projects through the consortium will focus on priority challenges facing digital leaders, co-design solutions and translate research insights into practical tools and guidance that can be applied across the APS. 

“The opportunity here is to take what we learn from this consortium and put it into the hands of the people making these decisions every day,” continues Mr Quarrell.

“That means practical approaches that help digital leaders navigate complexity, make more confident decisions and ultimately deliver better outcomes for people and businesses.”

The consortium is now reviewing potential topics for the consortium’s first research project.
