Buying mobile products and services
The Mobile Panel has expired. Mobile phones, phone plans and other mobile services can be purchased through either the existing Telecommunications Marketplace (Enterprise Mobility Services Category) or the Hardware Marketplace (Smart Device Category) which is expected to be ready by early 2021.
If you have existing contracts under the Mobile Panel, you will have the option to continue with these contracts and use any extensions available within those contracts.
The DTA has established an enterprise mobility category under the new whole-of-government Telecommunications Marketplace. This can be used to fulfil any agency needs for mobile phones and data/carriage plans.
The DTA recently released a tender to establish a smart device category under the Hardware Marketplace which closed in September. With evaluations underway, we expect to onboard Sellers to this new category late 2020/early 2021. The smart device category will provide agencies with a mechanism to purchase mobile devices and basic data/carriage plans. Buyers should check buyict.gov.au for updates.
This smart device category under the Hardware Marketplace is in addition to the enterprise mobility category under the telecommunications marketplace.
Mobile phones and carriage (including mobile data carriage) are mandatory categories under whole-of-government procurement for Non-Corporate Commonwealth Entities (NCEs). This means NCEs must use either the Hardware Marketplace or telecommunications marketplace to purchase mobile phones and data/carriage plans. Agencies will be able to make a business decision about which of these two purchasing methods best matches their needs.
